Collective bargaining is a legislative privilege granted by friendly law makers in some localities which can be quickly and abruptly eliminated (as you've all just observed.)
Public unions are idiotic. Imagine a private sector union where the union members themselves were able to contribute to the election and vote for the individual whom they'd be bargaining against. BRILLIANT! It's a conflict of interest - straight up.

Fivepoint- you act as if teachers make lots of money. The don't, even though they are required to have masters degrees. People understand if the belt is tight. People do NOT understand being denied the right to unionize and fight when they feel taken advantage of. NO ONE should ever be jailed for striking. I heard somewhere that federal employees are not able to collectively bargain for their benefits package. If this is true, why are recent states' attempts to restrict unionized bargaining seen as being so draconian, and why isn't there an outcry to give federal employees the same "rights"?

I had a 140-hour week a while back. It's perfectly legal. But you have to PAY OVERTIME. If you want to exploit your workers, you pay them for it. You have the free will to work them overtime, they have the free will to accept that overtime, and then you pay them for it. Don't like it, don't do it...free will, baby.
Workplace safety should not be required? Bwaahahaha. Now, I most certainly do not follow most safety rules in my line of work, because a lot of them are pretty silly. But to do away with required safety procedures for many occupations is just an amazing concept. This is what I "love" about MacRumors, it's the only Apple fansite where Apple fans, rightly proud of their products, can log on and be TOLD what their opinions should be by rabid fans of other devices, who in turn use the fanboy card to back up their point of view, therefore rendering any reply by an Apple user pointless.

By the way - the apple uk store lists the 23" as �779 - yet earlier in this thread people were saying that the prices had not yet dropped..I was under the impression that 779 was the reduced price..is it going down further or are the wrong?

When I was in college years ago I use to work at Circuit City, Black Friday, or any major launch of a product the registers were always a mess or came up short. If you were not very smart or had terrible sales skills they placed you as a cashier, if they could pinpoint it the person usually got chilled out by the manager. Hate to say it but good service is gone, and Best Buy has become one of the last of the big box stores, with a majority of not so knowledgeable staff, and ripping people off with there crappy warranties and overpriced products. It's always a last resort in my book if you absolutely must have something that minute and it's your only option.
All I heard is "I'm trying to justify this to myself and get the forum to make me feel okay about the ****** thing I did that is weighing on my conscience."
You know it's wrong.
I was once in your position. I returned an item and the woman returned $100 more than what she owed me. I went to the car, thought about it for a minute, went back in, and gave the money back. She thanked me, and said if I hadn't done that, it would have come out of her paycheck, and she couldn't have afforded that.
You never know the situation of the person you're screwing over with your greed. I hope for his sake he doesn't have any dependents or isn't trying to pay his way through school or perhaps pay for drug rehab to stop from being a "stoner."

I first thought that fullscreen applications are not the way to go. But using Mail and Safari in fullscreen is so much fun... I'm always diappointed booting back into Snow Leopard

They have always stated the Volt would be coming by the end of 2010 ever since the program started back in 2007.
Also remember, the areas the Volt will be sold in first( DC, New York, etc) are affluent areas where people can afford the Volt.
And even at $41,000, GM is still taking a loss with the vehicle.

I just installed Mac OS X Lion DP2 on my Hackintosh, and I love it, its amazing, the experience is a lot better then Snow Leopard, only had the opportunity to use it for a while, still fooling around with stuff..
